Works of Winter

This work is spread out end of the grapes harvest to the first heats of April.

 Pre-size

It Dresses allows a coarse pruning of wood releasing the wire “palisseurs” for an easier release of the size of the vine. It is carried out with the hand using a pre-sizes (kind of cut hedge to only one line of teeth) during October - November, when the sheets fell.

 The Size of the vine

This operation makes it possible to make the choice of the branches which will bear the fruits to next harvest. This choice is done according to the quality of wood, the distribution of the future bits, their future exposure. It conditions also the quantity of harvest to come. A neat and well thought size involves a healthy and easier work for the remainder of the vegetative cycle of the vine. It is practised mid-November until end Mars, it is a significant share of the work of the vine grower in time and of responsibility.

The Amendment

It is the food of the ground, therefore of the vine. It can be chemical in the form of nitrated derivatives, of phosphates and potash, or organics in the form of manure of animals, more or less advanced vegetable decomposition. Our choice on the exploitation is an entirely organic amendment as well as possible respecting nature and the soil in the form of crushed fresh barks of leafy trees and coniferous tree added with manure of animals for its contribution of humus. Certain pieces lacking strength can "be doped" using manure dehydrated to stimulate the microbial life and worms of the ground. The nitrogen contribution is done by the slow decomposition of the barks. The management of phosphates. potash and magnesia do not pose a problem with the sight of the massive contributions of the former generations. They are controlled annually by analysis of grounds.

The Crushing of the vine shoots

Once the size of the vine carried out, the cut vine shoots is laid out in wind-rows on the ground in the vines and one passes the crusher who will shred wood to transform it into easily humus organic matter by the ground. It is an additional contribution for the vine.
